Rigor No Mortis
Redshirt Tales is no longer a Star Trek blog. I don't have the time to keep to the trek a day formula, and frankly I don't think it was very good anyway. Sci Fi will still be a mainstay, but horizons will be broadened. I may or may not keep the archived posts. More to come.

Episode 26: Errand of Mercy
The first appearance of Star Trek's signature "villains".Klingons have made a bigger impact than any other alien species created for the show. You can get Hamlet and a number of other literary works translated into Klingon. It's unlikely that there is anything else more frequently cosplayed than Klingons.

Episode 25: Devil in the Dark
Spock and a vomit monster share a romance worthy of a Twilight novel. A romance for the ages if you will. I've noticed that there is a small similarity to House within Star Trek. Everywhere the Enterprise goes they are lied to by the natives. Everybody lies indeed.
Some sort of creature is offing miners and the Enterprise is dispatched to investigate. A widget from the mining stations power station is taken and will cause the whole thing to blow up in 48 hours. Scotty cobbles together a new reactor, and Kirk deduces that maybe the creature ate the reactor...you know , like they do.

Episode 24: This Side of Paradise
This is your Spock. This is your Spock on spores. Any questions? Seeing Spock gallivant and laugh is pretty creepy. I've seen Nimoy in other stuff where he acts like a normal person, but in his Spock guise it is jarring to say the least.
The Enterprise is on body retrieving duty to a UFP colony destroyed by radiation. Surprisingly, the colonists are alive and kicking. McCoy finds everyone goofily happy and healthy. Hell, surgically removed organs have regenerated (an aside: that could be horrifying if you think about other consequences with that).

Episode 23: A Taste of Armageddon
Armageddon outta here! Bwa ha ha ha hah ah hah! Ha ha ha hah! Ha......cough, sorry. Anyway, this is basically the story of, "I shot you! and "Nuh uh, you didn't!"
This is pretty clearly a cold war allegory, and a pretty damned good one. I don't think I've ever actually seen this one before, so it's kind of a nice surprise.
